Koulouma
Koulouma is the open-air celebration of Clean Monday, out in the countryside or in town squares, which marks the official start of Great Lent.

The event
On Clean Monday, Masquerini celebrates Koulouma at two spots in the municipality, Katerini beach (Paralia) and Korinos beach, together with local organisations and clubs, the traditional way: lagana flatbread, Lenten food and music by the sea.
In 2027 the spots are the same as in 2026. The full programme will be announced soon.

Paralia Katerinis Square
Clean Monday 23 February, 11:00
Music and dancing, with animateurs, face painting and gifts for the children. Organised by the Paralia Free Professionals’ Association “Kerdoos Ermis”, with the Paralia Educational Association taking part.

Korinos beach
Clean Monday 23 February, 11:00
Near the chapel of Agia Marina. Organised by the Korinos Municipal Community, with the “Efxeinos Pontos” Cultural Association of Korinos, the Korinos Youth Educational Association, the Eastern Rumelians’ Association and the Koumpagiotes’ Association “Ag. Grigorios Kallidis”.

The grand parade
Masquerini Passarella
Katerini’s carnival parade, known as the Passarella, is open to everyone. It is the ultimate moment of fun and carnival revelry. It sets off from the entrance of the Park of Colours and finishes where Geo. Olympiou, Solomou and Agias Lavras streets meet, in the heart of the Street Party.

Burning of the Fanos & traditional Gaitanaki
With the gaitanaki, which stands for the circle of life, the burning of the Fanos, which burns away evil, and the customary “synchoremena”, asking one another’s forgiveness, we mark the start of Lent and the end of Katerini’s carnival weekend.
